Java3D Applets (Movies)

This page is a clone of the original Java3D Applets page where I replaced the applets by links to mpeg movies made based on those applets. It's not as nice, but it works on pretty much every computer without having to install any additional software.

Note: These movies represent physical processes. They are intended to explain things to non-experts and so, cannot be completely accurate. I think nobody has yet figured out a way to represent interacting wave functions anyways.

1. Nuclear Collisions

Elastic

Quasi-Elastic

Deep-Inelastic

Quasi-Fission (Pb fragment)

Quasi-Fission (Sn fragment)

Fusion-Fission

Evaporation Residue

These movies are based on an applet extracted from my PhD thesis defense. They show examples of different the reaction types. The green stuff is nuclear matter (neutrons and protons alike), the yellow waves are gamma rays photons.

A page with more detailed scientific explanations on these reactions is currently under construction.

2. DEMON scintillation counter

DEMON

This movie is based on an applet extracted from my PhD thesis defense. It is intended to explain how a scintillator counter (in this case the DEMON neutron detector) works.

A page with more detailed scientific explanations on the scintillation process is currently under construction. You can also find more information at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scintillator, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scintillation_Counter and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photomultiplier.
